* x86: Add support to build strcmp/strlen/strchr with explicit ISA levelNoah Goldstein2022-07-161-1/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1. Add default ISA level selection in non-multiarch/rtld implementations. 2. Add ISA level build guards to different implementations. - I.e strcmp-avx2.S which is ISA level 3 will only build if compiled ISA level <= 3. Otherwise there is no reason to include it as we will always use one of the ISA level 4 implementations (strcmp-evex.S). 3. Refactor the ifunc selector and ifunc implementation list to use the ISA level aware wrapper macros that allow functions below the compiled ISA level (with a guranteed replacement) to be skipped. Tested with and without multiarch on x86_64 for ISA levels: {generic, x86-64-v2, x86-64-v3, x86-64-v4} And m32 with and without multiarch.
* x86: Code cleanup in strchr-avx2 and comment justifying branchNoah Goldstein2022-03-251-97/+107
| | | | | | | | | | | Small code cleanup for size: -53 bytes. Add comment justifying using a branch to do NULL/non-null return. All string/memory tests pass and no regressions in benchtests. geometric_mean(N=20) of all benchmarks Original / New: 1.00 Reviewed-by: H.J. Lu <hjl.tools@gmail.com>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I used these shell commands: ../glibc/scripts/update-copyrights $PWD/../gnulib/build-aux/update-copyright (cd ../glibc && git commit -am"[this commit message]") and then ignored the output, which consisted lines saying "FOO: warning: copyright statement not found" for each of 7061 files FOO. I then removed trailing white space from math/tgmath.h, support/tst-support-open-dev-null-range.c, and sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strlen-vec.S, to work around the following obscure pre-commit check failure diagnostics from Savannah. I don't know why I run into these diagnostics whereas others evidently do not. remote: *** 912-#endif remote: *** 913: remote: *** 914- remote: *** error: lines with trailing whitespace found ... remote: *** error: sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/statx_cp.c: trailing lines
* x86: Optimize strchr-avx2.SNoah Goldstein2021-04-251-117/+169
| | | | | | | | | | No bug. This commit optimizes strchr-avx2.S. The optimizations are all small things such as save an ALU in the alignment process, saving a few instructions in the loop return, saving some bytes in the main loop, and increasing the ILP in the return cases. test-strchr, test-strchrnul, test-wcschr, and test-wcschrnul are all passing. * x86-64: Add AVX optimized string/memory functions for RTMH.J. Lu2021-03-291-15/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since VZEROUPPER triggers RTM abort while VZEROALL won't, select AVX optimized string/memory functions with xtest jz 1f vzeroall ret 1: vzeroupper ret at function exit on processors with usable RTM, but without 256-bit EVEX instructions to avoid VZEROUPPER inside a transactionally executing RTM region.
* x86-64: Refactor and improve performance of strchr-avx2.Snoah2021-02-081-113/+112
| | | | | | | | No bug. Just seemed the performance could be improved a bit. Observed and expected behavior are unchanged. Optimized body of main loop. Updated page cross logic and optimized accordingly. Made a few minor instruction selection modifications. No regressions in test suite. Both test-strchrnul and test-strchr passed.

* x86-64: Optimize strchr/strchrnul/wcschr with AVX2H.J. Lu2017-06-091-0/+254
Optimize strchr/strchrnul/wcschr with AVX2 to search 32 bytes with vector instructions. It is as fast as SSE2 versions for size <= 16 bytes and up to 1X faster for or size > 16 bytes on Haswell. Select AVX2 version on AVX2 machines where vzeroupper is preferred and AVX unaligned load is fast. NB: It uses TZCNT instead of BSF since TZCNT produces the same result as BSF for non-zero input. TZCNT is faster than BSF and is executed as BSF if machine doesn't support TZCNT. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/Makefile (sysdep_routines): Add strchr-sse2, strchrnul-sse2, strchr-avx2, strchrnul-avx2, wcschr-sse2 and wcschr-avx2. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/ifunc-impl-list.c (__libc_ifunc_impl_list): Add tests for __strchr_avx2, __strchrnul_avx2, __strchrnul_sse2, __wcschr_avx2 and __wcschr_sse2. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strchr-avx2.S: New file. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strchr-sse2.S: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strchr.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strchrnul-avx2.S: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strchrnul-sse2.S: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strchrnul.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/wcschr-avx2.S: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/wcschr-sse2.S: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/wcschr.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strchr.S: Removed.
