| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use <arch-syscall.h> instead of <asm/unistd.h> to obtain the system call numbers. A few direct includes of <asm/unistd.h> need to be removed (if the system call numbers are already provided indirectly by <sysdep.h>) or replaced with <sys/syscall.h>. Current Linux headers for alpha define the required system call names, so most of the _NR_* hacks are no longer needed. For the 32-bit arm architecture, eliminate the INTERNAL_SYSCALL_ARM macro, now that we have regular system call names for cacheflush and set_tls. There are more such cleanup opportunities for other architectures, but these cleanups are required to avoid macro redefinition errors during the build. For ia64, it is desirable to use <asm/break.h> directly to obtain the break number for system calls (which is not a system call number itself). This requires replacing __BREAK_SYSCALL with __IA64_BREAK_SYSCALL because the former is defined as an alias in <asm/unistd.h>, but not in <asm/break.h>. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Linux 5.3 adds a PTRACE_GET_SYSCALL_INFO constant, with an associated structure and PTRACE_SYSCALL_INFO_* constants. This patch adds these to sys/ptrace.h in glibc (PTRACE_GET_SYSCALL_INFO in each architecture version, the rest in bits/ptrace-shared.h). As with previous such constants and associated structures, the glibc version of the structure is named struct __ptrace_syscall_info. Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch creates a new bits/endian.h that can be included by any header that wants to be able to test __BYTE_ORDER and/or __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER against the __*_ENDIAN constants, or needs __LONG_LONG_PAIR. It only defines macros in the implementation namespace. The existing bits/endian.h (which could not be included independently of endian.h, and only defines __BYTE_ORDER and maybe __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER) is renamed to bits/endianness.h. I also took the opportunity to canonicalize the form of this header, which we are stuck with having one copy of per architecture. Since they are so short, this means git doesn’t understand that they were renamed from existing headers, sigh. endian.h itself is a nonstandard header and its only remaining use from a standard header is guarded by __USE_MISC, so I dropped the __USE_MISC conditionals from around all of the public-namespace things it defines. (This means, an application that requests strict library conformance but includes endian.h will still see the definition of BYTE_ORDER.) A few changes to specific bits/endian(ness).h variants deserve mention: - sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ia64/bits/endian.h is moved to sysdeps/ia64/bits/endianness.h. If I remember correctly, ia64 did have selectable endianness, but we have assembly code in sysdeps/ia64 that assumes it’s little-endian, so there is no reason to treat the ia64 endianness.h as linux-specific. - The C-SKY port does not fully support big-endian mode, the compile will error out if __CSKYBE__ is defined. - The PowerPC port had extra logic in its bits/endian.h to detect a broken compiler, which strikes me as unnecessary, so I removed it. - The only files that defined __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER always defined it to the same value as __BYTE_ORDER, so I removed those definitions. The SH bits/endian(ness).h had comments inconsistent with the actual setting of __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER, which I also removed. - I *removed* copyright boilerplate from the few bits/endian(ness).h headers that had it; these files record a single fact in a fashion dictated by an external spec, so I do not think they are copyrightable. As long as I was changing every copy of ieee754.h in the tree, I noticed that only the MIPS variant includes float.h, because it uses LDBL_MANT_DIG to decide among three different versions of ieee854_long_double. This patch makes it not include float.h when GCC’s intrinsic __LDBL_MANT_DIG__ is available. * string/endian.h: Unconditionally define LITTLE_ENDIAN, BIG_ENDIAN, PDP_ENDIAN, and BYTE_ORDER. Condition byteswapping macros only on !__ASSEMBLER__. Move the definitions of __BIG_ENDIAN, __LITTLE_ENDIAN, __PDP_ENDIAN, __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER, and __LONG_LONG_PAIR to... * string/bits/endian.h: ...this new file, which includes the renamed header bits/endianness.h for the definition of __BYTE_ORDER and possibly __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER. * string/Makefile: Install bits/endianness.h. * include/bits/endian.h: New wrapper. * bits/endian.h: Rename to bits/endianness.h. A bits/procfs-id.h header is added to define __pr_uid_t and __pr_gid_t for the types of pr_uid and pr_gid; the default version of this header uses unsigned int. On some architectures, sys/procfs.h has copies of 32-bit structures for 64-bit builds; those move into a bits/procfs-extra.h header (they can't go in bits/procfs.h because they have to come *after* other declarations from sys/procfs.h). Given appropriate versions of these headers, six more architectures can then move to providing only bits/procfs*.h without duplicating the rest of the contents of sys/procfs.h. Only alpha needs a further bits/ header to be added before it can stop having its own sys/procfs.h. * Unify some sys/procfs.h headers.Joseph Myers2018-09-251-27/+29
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As per recent discussions, this patch unifies some of the sys/procfs.h headers for architectures using the Linux kernel, producing a generic version that can hopefully be used by all new architectures as well. The new generic version is based on the AArch64 one. The register definitions, the only part that generally needs to vary by architecture, go in a new bits/procfs.h header (which each architecture using the generic version needs to provide); that header also has any #includes that were in the architecture-specific sys/procfs.h, where those includes went beyond the generic set. The generic version is used for eight architectures where the generic definitions were the same as the architecture-specific ones. (Some of those architectures had #if 0 fields, now removed; some defined types or fields using different type names which were typedefs for the same underlying types.) Six of the remaining architectures with their own sys/procfs.h use unsigned short for pr_uid / pr_gid in some cases; moving those to the generic header will require a bits/ header to define a typedef for the type of those fields. In the case of alpha, the generic sys/procfs.h uses elf_gregset_t (= unsigned long int[33]) to define prgregset_t and elf_fpregset_t (= double[32]) to define prfpregset_t, but the alpha version uses gregset_t (= long int[33]) and fpregset_t (= long int[32]), so avoiding unnecessarily changing the underlying types (and thus C++ name mangling) again means a bits/ header will need to be able to define a different choice for those typedefs. bits/procfs.h is included outside the __BEGIN_DECLS / __END_DECLS pair (whereas the definitions it contains were previously inside that pair in various sys/procfs.h headers), because it sometimes includes other headers and putting those other #includes inside that pair seems risky. Because none of the declarations in bits/procfs.h are of functions or variables or involve function types, I don't think it makes any difference whether they are inside or outside an extern "C" context. Tested with build-many-glibcs.py (again, that does not provide much validation for the correctness of this patch). * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sys/procfs.h: Replace with file based on AArch64 version. * Fix sys/procfs.h pr_uid, pr_gid type (bug 23649).Joseph Myers2018-09-141-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As noted in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2018-09/msg00178.html>, glibc's sys/procfs.h headers for microblaze, mips (n64), nios2 and riscv have incorrect types for the pr_uid and pr_gid members of struct elf_prpsinfo (as does the generic Linux version, but nothing uses that). This patch fixes those headers to use unsigned int. The generic Linux version is also fixed, but I do *not* recommend making new architectures use it yet. Rather, I think it should be reworked to look more like a copy of the AArch64 version, but with a new <bits/procfs.h> header included to provide register set definitions; <bits/procfs.h> would then be architecture-specific while many architectures could use the generic <sys/procfs.h>. This fix is deliberately separate from any reworking to use a generic header more, since it's possible there could be uses for backporting this fix but not for backporting a subsequent cleanup. Tested with build-many-glibcs.py. This of course doesn't provide much validation of the structure layout; if the Linux kernel is fixed so that "#include <linux/elfcore.h>" actually compiles with the headers from "make headers_install" (and if the layout in both headers is meant to be the same, whatever ABI we are building for), I have a test that can be added to glibc to check the layout against that from the Linux kernel. This patch conditions the definition accordingly, updating a macro in sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sys/quota.h to use __loff_t so it still works even if __USE_MISC is not defined. codesearch.debian.net suggests there are quite a lot of loff_t uses outside glibc, but it might well make sense to change all (few) uses of loff_t or __loff_t inside glibc to use off64_t or __off64_t instead, leaving only the definitions, treating this name as obsolescent. This is not permitted by POSIX; sigaltstack is only reserved with file scope in the namespace of ordinary identifiers, not the tag namespace, and in the case where stack_t is obtained from ucontext.h rather than signal.h, it's not reserved with file scope at all. This patch removes the tag accordingly and updates uses in glibc of struct sigaltstack. This is similar to the removal of the "struct siginfo" tag a few years ago: C++ name mangling changes are an unavoidable consequence. A NEWS item is added to note the changed mangling. There is inevitably some risk of breaking builds of anything that relies on the struct sigaltstack name (though the first few hits I looked at from codesearch.debian.net generally seemed to involve code that could use the stack_t name conditionally, so depending on how they determine the conditionals they may work with glibc not defining the struct tag anyway). They do not use these types themselves. All headers that (transitively) include rpc/types.h are also excluded, for three reasons. First, the u_* types are defined by rpc/types.h, unconditionally (not just under __USE_MISC) so they are logically part of the SunRPC API. Second, many of those headers appear to be machine-generated. Third, it's my understanding that we are getting rid of as much of SunRPC as possible in the near future. (The one file under sunrpc/ that's touched, sunrpc/rpc/rpc_des.h, does *not* include rpc/types.h. This may itself be a bug.) After changing from u_intNN_t to uintNN_t, a number of headers now need to include stdint.h to pick up those types. It might be more hygenic, namespace-wise, to use __uintNN_t instead, but none of these headers are bound by ISO or POSIX to do so, and it's unlikely that anyone using them will be bothered. (The two files that were using __-prefixed versions of the u_types, sysdeps/mach/hurd/net/route.h and sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/net/route.h, both already also contained uses of the unprefixed versions.) Some of these files directly included features.h and/or sys/cdefs.h, which I removed, as the style generally seems to be to let sys/types.h do that for us. (This does not change the set of definitions exposed by any header; sys/types.h unconditionally includes both features.h and sys/cdefs.h.) This would mean that the deprecation logic coming up in the next patch would have to be written twice (in generic/ and unix/sysv/linux/). To avoid that, hoist all but the unavoidably system-dependent logic to misc/, leaving a bits/ header behind. This also promotes the Linux-specific encoding of dev_t, which accommodates 32-bit major and minor numbers in a 64-bit dev_t, to generic, as glibc's dev_t is always 64 bits wide. The former Linux implementation used inline functions to avoid evaluating arguments more than once. After this change, all platforms use inline functions, which means that three new symbols are added to the generic ABI. (These symbols are in the user namespace, which is how they have always been on Linux. They begin with "gnu_dev_", so collisions with user code are pretty unlikely.) New ports henceforth need only provide a bits/sysmacros.h defining internal macros __SYSMACROS_{DECLARE,DEFINE}_{MAJOR,MINOR,MAKEDEV}. This is only necessary if the kernel encoding is incompatible with the now-generic encoding (for instance, it would be necessary for FreeBSD). Specifically, the following are obsolete in all kernel versions supported by glibc, are not present for architectures more recently added to the kernel, and as such, the wrapper functions for them should be compat symbols, not in static libc and not available for new links with shared libc. * bdflush: in Linux 2.6, does nothing if present. * create_module get_kernel_syms query_module: Linux 2.4 module interface, syscalls not present in Linux 2.6. * uselib: part of the mechanism for loading a.out shared libraries, irrelevant with ELF. This patch adds support for syscalls.list to list syscall aliases of the form NAME@VERSION:OBSOLETED, with SHLIB_COMPAT conditionals being generated for such aliases. Those five syscalls are then made into compat symbols (obsoleted in glibc 2.23, so future ports won't have these symbols at all), with the header <sys/kdaemon.h> declaring bdflush being removed. When we move to 3.2 as minimum kernel version, the same can be done for nfsservctl (removed in Linux 3.1) as well. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, as well as checking that the symbols in question indeed become compat symbols, that they are indeed omitted from static libc, and that the generated SHLIB_COMPAT conditionals look right).
