* Remove __ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT.Joseph Myers2018-12-181-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | kernel-features.h has a macro __ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT, with a comment "However, SH is lame, and still does not have a 64-bit inode field.". The macro is, in fact, defined to 0 by Alpha as well as SH. The Alpha case is, however, trivially useless: none of the files that test __ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT are built for Alpha (which gained kernel support for stat64 syscalls, with a 64-bit st_ino field, in Linux 2.6.4; the define to 0 for Alpha in glibc predates that). The SH kernel gained support for a 64-bit st_ino in struct stat64 in commit 760bcb1deec13c50e20399c84cb6a8ea41cc2820 ("sh: Fix fstatat64() syscall."), which is in Linux 2.6.22 and later. So the redefinition of __ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT to 0 is of no use for SH either; three of the files testing it do so immediately after a stat64-family syscall has been used, which will always have set the 64-bit st_ino correctly (in addition to the 32-bit __st_ino), while the relevant code __xstat32_conv executes only after such a syscall in the function calling __xstat32_conv. Thus this patch removes __ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT and code testing it. Removing the useless [!__ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT] code in __xstat32_conv renders the [_HAVE_STAT64___ST_INO] and [!_HAVE_STAT64___ST_INO] cases around it identical, so that conditional is also removed. Tested compilation with build-many-glibcs.py for its Alpha and SH configurations; also ran the glibc testsuite for x86_64 and x86. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT): Remove macro definition. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/alpha/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT): Do not undefine and define. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sh/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_ST_INO_64_BIT): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/fxstat64.c: Do not include <kernel-features.h>. * Remove __ASSUME_SOCKETCALL.Joseph Myers2018-11-081-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The __ASSUME_SOCKETCALL macro in kernel-features.h is no longer used for anything. (It used to be used in defining other macros related to accept4 / recvmmsg / sendmmsg availability, but the code in that area was simplified once we could assume a kernel with those features, whether through a syscall or through socketcall, so allowing those functions to be handled much like other socket operations, without requring __ASSUME_SOCKETCALL.) This patch removes that unused macro. (Note: once we can assume a Linux 4.4 or later kernel, much of the support for using socketcall at all can be removed from glibc, although a few functions may need that support in glibc for longer.) Tested with build-many-glibcs.py. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/kernel-features.h: Remove comment about __ASSUME_SOCKETCALL. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_SOCKETCALL): Remove. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/m68k/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_SOCKETCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/microblaze/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_SOCKETCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/powerpc/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_SOCKETCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/s390/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_SOCKETCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sh/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_SOCKETCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sparc/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_SOCKETCALL): Likewise.
* Correct SH kernel-features.h undefines (bug 23862).Joseph Myers2018-11-061-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The SH kernel-features.h undefines __ASSUME_RENAMEAT2 for kernel versions before 4.8, but fails to undefine __ASSUME_EXECVEAT, __ASSUME_MLOCK2 and __ASSUME_COPY_FILE_RANGE, although all those syscalls (and several others) were added for SH in the same Linux kernel commit (first released in 4.8). This patch adds the proper undefines of those macros. Tested with build-many-glibcs.py for its SH configurations. * Add renameat2 function [BZ #17662]Florian Weimer2018-07-051-0/+5
| | | | | | | The implementation falls back to renameat if renameat2 is not available in the kernel (or in the kernel headers) and the flags argument is zero. Without kernel support, a non-zero argument returns EINVAL, not ENOSYS. This mirrors what the kernel does for invalid renameat2 flags.

* Simplify accept4, recvmmsg, sendmmsg code.Joseph Myers2017-05-091-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The accept4, recvmmsg and sendmmsg functions had macros __ASSUME_*_SYSCALL_WITH_SOCKETCALL. Before we could assume kernels with the relevant functionality, these macros represented the conditions under which, on a socketcall architecture, glibc could just call the syscall unconditionally and not have to deal with socketcall at all for those functions, because if the syscall didn't work for them the socketcall call wouldn't either. Now we can assume kernels with the relevant functionality, the only question is whether we can assume the syscall is present; if not, we are on a socketcall architecture and just use socketcall instead. Thus, this patch removes the macros that are no longer necessary, and simplifies the code for accept4, recvmmsg and sendmmsg to use the same logic as the other C implementations of socket functions that may use a syscall or socketcall depending on kernel support. Tested for x86_64 and x86. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/accept4.c (accept4): Use syscall if [__ASSUME_ACCEPT4_SYSCALL], otherwise socketcall. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/recvmmsg.c (recvmmsg): Use syscall if [__ASSUME_RECVMMSG_SYSCALL], otherwise socketcall. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sendmmsg.c (__sendmmsg): Use syscall if [__ASSUME_SENDMMSG_SYSCALL], otherwise socketcall. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_ACCEPT4_SYSCALL): Move to general list of macros for socket syscalls. * Add __ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL for LinuxAdhemerval Zanella2016-12-281-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On current minimum supported kernels, the SysV IPC on Linux is provided by either the ipc syscalls or correspondent wire syscalls. Also, for architectures that supports wire syscalls all syscalls are supported in a set (msgct, msgrcv, msgsnd, msgget, semctl, semget, semop, semtimedop, shmctl, shmat, shmget, shmdt). The architectures that only supports ipc syscall are: - i386, m68k, microblaze, mips32, powerpc (powerpc32, powerpc64, and powerpc64le), s390 (32 and 64 bits), sh, sparc32, and sparc64. And the architectures that only supports wired syscalls are: - aarch64, alpha, hppa, ia64, mips64, mips64n32, nios2, tile (tilepro, tilegx, and tilegx64), and x86_64 Also arm is the only one that supports both wire syscalls and the ipc, although the ipc one is deprecated. This patch adds a new define, __ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL, that wired syscalls are supported on the system and the general idea is to use it where possible. I also checked the syscall table for all architectures on Linux 4.9 and there is no change on described support for Linux 2.6.32/3.2. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): New define. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Undef. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/m68k/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/powerpc/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/s390/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sh/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sparc/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise.

* Fix Linux sh4 pread/pwrite argument passingAdhemerval Zanella2016-10-241-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Although conceptually correct for p{read,write}{64} offset argument passing, sh4 implementation does not generate the correct expected code. The __ALIGNMENT_ARG redefinition is incorrect for two reasons: 1. the kernel-features.h header is included multiple times (since it contains no guards) and 2. the value it redefines is also incorrect (should be '0, ' instead of empty definition). This patch fixes it by adding another macro, SYSCALL_LL_PRW{64}, meant to be used to pass the offset argument on p{read,write}64. It is basically the already define SYSCALL_LL{64} plus __ALIGNMENT_ARG unless __ASSUME_PRW_DUMMY_ARG is define. In this case an empty dummy argument is used regardless how __ALIGNMENT_ARG is defined (sh4 case). Checked on x86_64, i686, aarch64, armhf, and powerpc64le (basically a sanity check). Also, John Paul Adrian Glaubitz <glaubitz@physik.fu-berlin.de> and James Clarke <jrtc27@jrtc27.com> help me check on a debian sh4 bootstrap using 2.24 plus this patch to verify it also corrected fixed the regression issue. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adjusts the defaults for kernel-features.h macros relating to availability of accept4, recvmmsg and sendmmsg. It is not intended to affect which macros end up getting defined in any configuration. At present, all architectures with syscalls for those functions need to define __ASSUME_*_SYSCALL macros; in particular, any new architecture needs its own kernel-features.h file for that purpose, though it may not otherwise need such a header. Those macros are then used together with __ASSUME_SOCKETCALL to define macros for whether the functions in question are available. This patch changes the defaults so that the syscalls are assumed to be available by default with recent-enough kernels, and it is the responsibility of architecture headers to undefine the macros if they are unavailable in supported kernels at least as recent as the version where the architecture-independent functionality was introduced. The __ASSUME_<function> macros are defaulted similarly instead of being defined based on other macros (defining based on other macros would no longer work because the #undefs appear after the generic header is included), so where the syscall being unavailable means the function is unavailable this means the architecture header has to undefine the __ASSUME_<function> macro; this only affects __ASSUME_ACCEPT4 for ia64, as other cases where the syscalls were added late enough to be relevant with current kernel version requirements are all on socketcall architectures. As a consequence, the AArch64 and Nios II kernel-features.h header files are removed, and others simplified. When the minimum kernel version becomes 4.3 or later on all architectures, the syscalls in question can just be assumed unconditionally, permitting further simplification. Tested for x86_64, x86 and powerpc (that installed shared libraries are unchanged by the patch, and testsuite for x86_64 and x86). * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_ACCEPT4_SYSCALL): Define unconditionally. * Use direct socket syscalls for new kernels on i386, m68k, microblaze, sh.Joseph Myers2015-12-091-0/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that we have __ASSUME_* macros for direct socket syscalls to use them instead of socketcall when they can be assumed to be available on socketcall architectures, this patch defines those macros when appropriate for i386, m68k, microblaze and sh (for 4.3, 4.3, all supported kernels and 2.6.37, respectively; the only use of socketcall support on microblaze is it allows accept4 and sendmmsg to be supported on a wider range of kernel versions). David, it seems that 32-bit SPARC is the only architecture supported by glibc that still lacks these direct syscalls. It would be good to get them added to the SPARC kernel so we can eventually eliminate socketcall support in glibc (and thereby just use entries in sysdeps/unix/syscalls.list for most of these functions) when we can assume new-enough kernels. Tested for i386 (testsuite, and that installed shared libraries are unchanged by this patch - not using a new enough kernel, so this doesn't actually test much, but the i386 and m68k code is essentially the same as that already in use for s390). * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/kernel-features.h [__LINUX_KERNEL_VERSION >= 0x040300] (__ASSUME_SOCKET_SYSCALL): New macro. * Correct __ASSUME_PRLIMIT64 for hppa/microblaze/sh (bug 17779).Joseph Myers2015-03-021-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | __ASSUME_PRLIMIT64 is defined in kernel-features.h for kernels 2.6.36 and later, but hppa, microblaze and sh did not add the prlimit64 syscall until 2.6.37. This patch adds corresponding undefines of __ASSUME_PRLIMIT64 to those architectures' kernel-features.h files. (This concludes the kernel-features.h fixes arising out of the review - limited to macros defined in the architecture-independent kernel-features.h file - I did in connection with the move to 2.6.32 minimum kernel version. For that subset of macros - I didn't check any purely architecture-specific macros - I think they are now defined for the correct kernel versions on each architecture after this patch.)
