Not only is it more concise than '{ errno = err; return -1; }', it is since commit 6639cc10029e24e06b34e169712b21c31b8cf213 "hurd: Mark error functions as __COLD" marked with the cold attribute, telling the compiler that this codepath is unlikely to be executed. Since the value need not be anything specific -- it just has to be non-NULL -- we can just use a plain constant, such as (void *) 1, for this. This avoids accessing the symbol through GOT, and exporting it from libc.so in the first place. Otherwise, the patch is automatically generated with all the same exclusions and caveats as in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00594.html> except that it's a patch for sysdeps files. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch).
