`ptsname_r' is declared in stdlib.h to only accept a `nonnull'
second argument and therefore GCC may choose to make optimizations
based on the assumption that this argument is NULL. This means
that potentially, GCC can optimize away the NULL check at some
point in the future. Since this is a programming interface, we
might as well remove the NULL check ourselves.
This also warrants a change to the `ptsname_r' manual page that
must be submitted to the corresponding mailing list.
In addition, remove the NULL buffer test in login/tst-ptsname.c.

The types affected are __sig_atomic_t, sig_atomic_t, __sigset_t,
sigset_t, sigval_t, sigevent_t, and siginfo_t. __sig_atomic_t is a
scalar, so it's now directly available from bits/types.h. The others
get bits/types/ headers.
Side effects include: There have been small changes to which
non-signal headers expose which subset of the signal-related types.
A couple of architectures' nested siginfo_t fields had to be renamed
to prevent undesired macro expansion. Internal code that wants to
manipulate signal masks must now include <sigsetops.h> (which is not
installed) and should be aware that __sigaddset, __sigandset,
__sigdelset, __sigemptyset, and __sigorset no longer return a value
(unlike the public API). Relatedly, the public signal.h no longer
declares any of those functions. The obsolete sigmask() macro no
longer has a system-specific definition -- in the cases where it
matters, it didn't work anyway.
New Linux architectures should create bits/siginfo-arch.h and/or
bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h to customize their siginfo_t, rather than
duplicating everything in bits/siginfo.h (which no longer exists).
Add new __SI_* macros if necessary. Ports to other operating systems
are strongly encouraged to generalize this scheme further.

I've updated copyright dates in glibc for 2017. This is the patch for
the changes not generated by scripts/update-copyrights and subsequent
build / regeneration of generated files.
Please remember to include 2017 in the dates for any new files added
in future (which means updating any existing uncommitted patches you
have that add new files to use the new copyright dates in them).

This patch converts various miscellaneous functions definitions in
glibc, found with grep and not covered by my previous scripted
conversions, from old-style K&R to prototype-style. These changes
were made manually. This is not necessarily exhaustive as formatting
variants may have prevented my grep from finding some such
definitions.
Regarding the changes to files from GMP, they may originally have been
omitted when removing __STDC__ conditionals because of the files
coming from another package, but (a) GMP no longer has __STDC__
conditionals there anyway and (b) we don't try to keep these files
verbatim in sync with GMP (and there are licensing differences), so
making the change to them in glibc seems reasonable.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite - this patch affects files
containing assertions).

This automatically-generated patch converts 69 function definitions in
glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style.
This patch, covering both sysdeps and non-sysdeps files, deals with
cases where the prototype needed to be wrapped over more than one
line. Otherwise, exclusions and caveats are as for
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00594.html> and
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-10/msg00599.html>.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped
shared libraries are unchanged by the patch).

With gcc-4.9, a new -fstack-protector-strong flag is available that is
between -fstack-protector (pretty weak) and -fstack-protector-all (pretty
strong) that provides good trade-offs between overhead but still providing
good coverage. Update the places in glibc that use ssp to use this flag
when it's available.
This also kills off the indirection of hardcoding the flag name in the
Makefiles and adding it based on a have-ssp boolean. Instead, the build
always expands the $(stack-protector) variable to the best ssp setting.
This makes the build logic a bit simpler and allows people to easily set
to a diff flag like:
make stack-protector=-fstack-protector-all

If grantpt() is called from a thread that is masking signals (for
instance, from a program using signalfd or using a dedicated
signal-handling thread), then that mask will get inherited to pt_chown.
This means that signals like SIGINT will not interrup pt_chown, so if it
hangs (e.g., because getgrnam("tty") hangs on a remote name service),
Ctrl-C will terminate the parent process but leave pt_chown around. Since
it's setuid, it's hard to kill any other way.
It is safe for pt_chown to unmask all signals, because grantpt() can be
(and usually is) called from an unprivileged process with all signals
unmasked.

This automatically-generated patch converts 703 function definitions
in glibc from old-style K&R to prototype-style.
This conversion is deliberately simplistic, excluding any tricky cases
as even a patch covering only simple cases is still very large.
Currently excluded are: sysdeps files (to improve test coverage for
the initial patch); files containing assertions (to avoid line number
changes so that generated libraries can be compared); any cases where
the generated function declaration would involve lines over 79
characters and so need to be wrapped; any cases with array parameters
or other cases where parameter declarators don't end with the
parameter name; any other cases that my script didn't parse.
I didn't try to make the ChangeLog generation indicate when function
definitions are conditional; it just lists the functions changed
without regard to that.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped
shared libraries are unchanged by the patch).

I noticed that glibc testsuite runs left several files behind in /tmp
(or TMPDIR, if different). The problem was testcases that generate a
template for mkstemp / mkstemp64, ending with XXXXXX, then pass that
template to add_temp_file before calling mkstemp / mkstemp64, meaning
that the template ending with XXXXXX is stored in the list of
temporary files to delete (add_temp_file uses strdup so that the
original string doesn't need to stay live), not the actual filename as
determined by mkstemp / mkstemp64. This patch fixes those tests to
call add_temp_file later.
Tested for x86_64 (that the files are no longer left behind by a
testsuite run and the modified tests still pass).

It was noted in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-09/msg00305.html> that the
bits/*.h naming scheme should only be used for installed headers.
This patch renames bits/libc-lock.h to plain libc-lock.h and
bits/libc-lockP.h to plain libc-lockP.h to follow that convention.
Note that I don't know where libc-lockP.h comes from for Hurd (the
Hurd libc-lock.h includes libc-lockP.h, but the only libc-lockP.h in
the glibc source tree is for NPTL) - some unmerged patch? - but I
updated the #include in the Hurd libc-lock.h anyway.
Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared
libraries are unchanged by the patch).

To remove -Wno-error=undef, we need to fix the remaining cases where
there are -Wundef warnings in the testsuite. One of those places is
in login/tst-utmp.c.
When included from tst-utmpx.c, <utmpx.h> is included instead of
<utmp.h>, meaning the _HAVE_UT_* macros are not defined. The test is
prepared for them not being defined, in that all the relevant
conditionals also include "defined UTMPX". However, they test the
_HAVE_UT_* macros first, so resulting in -Wundef warnings.
This patch does the minimal fix of swapping the || operands. This is
logically correct - avoiding checking a macro we know will not be
defined in the case where it is not defined. It won't fix such
warnings for the case where the toplevel bits/utmp.h is used and most
_HAVE_UT_* aren't defined at all even when <utmp.h> is included, but
that case doesn't apply to any current glibc configuration. Fixing it
would also be tricky in that, while glibc itself consistently uses
_HAVE_UT_* in ways that would work with 0 instead of undefined,
external packages that use the macros expect defined / undefined
instead of 1 / 0 (codesearch.debian.net shows uses by util-linux,
python-utmp, libsys-utmp-perl).
Tested for x86_64.
* login/tst-utmp.c [_HAVE_UT_TYPE || defined UTMPX]: Change
conditional to [defined UTMPX || _HAVE_UT_TYPE].
[_HAVE_UT_TV || defined UTMPX]: Change conditional to [defined
UTMPX || _HAVE_UT_TV].
[_HAVE_UT_TV - 0 || defined UTMPX]: Change conditional to [defined
UTMPX || _HAVE_UT_TV - 0].

Various functions in XPG4 bring in references to getlogin_r, which is
not in XPG4; this is also a bug for some older POSIX versions which
aren't yet covered by the linknamespace tests. This patch fixes this
by making getlogin_r into a weak alias for __getlogin_r and using
__getlogin_r as needed.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that disassembly of
installed stripped shared libraries is unchanged by the patch).

I've updated copyright dates in glibc for 2015. This is the patch for
the changes not generated by scripts/update-copyrights and subsequent
build / regeneration of generated files. Apart from the files updated
last time (of which sotruss.ksh had moved to sotruss.sh during the
year) this also updates nptl/version.c (missed from 2006 until
October) and sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/lddlibc4.c (missed since 2009).

This patch modifies several test cases to use test-skeleton.c.
It was generated by a bash script written for this purpose and
thus excludes several other tests which I deemed worth a visual
inspection before making the change.
I intend to follow up with individual patches to the tests
skipped by the script.
The script itself resides at http://git.io/WODAmg and should
reproduce this very patch when run against master.

If the fd refers to a terminal device, but not a pty master, the
TIOCGPTN ioctl returns with ENOTTY. This error is not caught, and the
possibly undefined buffer passed to ptsname_r is sent directly to the
stat64 syscall.
Fix this by using a fallback to the old method only if the TIOCGPTN
ioctl fails with EINVAL. This also fix the return value in that specific
case (it return ENOENT without this patch).
Also add tests to the ptsname_r function (and ptsname at the same time).
Note: this is Debian bug#741482, reported by Jakub Wilk <jwilk@debian.org>

In <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-01/msg00196.html> I
noted it was necessary to add includes of Makeconfig early in various
subdirectory makefiles for the tests-special variable settings added
by that patch to be conditional on configuration information. No-one
commented on the general question there of whether Makeconfig should
always be included immediately after the definition of subdir.
This patch implements that early inclusion of Makeconfig in each
directory (which is a lot easier than consistent placement of includes
of Rules). Includes are added if needed, or moved up if already
present. Subdirectory "all:" targets are removed, since Makeconfig
provides one.
There is potential for further cleanups I haven't done. Rules and
Makerules have code such as
ifneq "$(findstring env,$(origin headers))" ""
headers :=
endif
to override to empty any value of various variables that came from the
environment. I think there is a case for Makeconfig setting all the
subdirectory variables (other than subdir) to empty to ensure no
outside value is going to take effect if a subdirectory fails to
define a variable. (A list of such variables, possibly out of date
and incomplete, is in manual/maint.texi.) Rules and Makerules would
give errors if Makeconfig hadn't already been included, instead of
including it themselves. The special code to override values coming
from the environment would then be obsolete and could be removed.
Tested x86_64, including that installed binaries are identical before
and after the patch.

The helper binary pt_chown tricked into granting access to another
user's pseudo-terminal.
Pre-conditions for the attack:
* Attacker with local user account
* Kernel with FUSE support
* "user_allow_other" in /etc/fuse.conf
* Victim with allocated slave in /dev/pts
Using the setuid installed pt_chown and a weak check on whether a file
descriptor is a tty, an attacker could fake a pty check using FUSE and
trick pt_chown to grant ownership of a pty descriptor that the current
user does not own. It cannot access /dev/pts/ptmx however.
In most modern distributions pt_chown is not needed because devpts
is enabled by default. The fix for this CVE is to disable building
and using pt_chown by default. We still provide a configure option
to enable hte use of pt_chown but distributions do so at their own
risk.

The UID might differ, too. Just call chown unconditionally.

The pt_chown program is completely transparently called. It might
not be able to live with the various file descriptors the program
has open at the time of the call (e.g., under SELinux). Close all
but the needed descriptor and connect stdin, stdout, and stderr
with /dev/null. pt_chown shouldn't print anything when called to
do real work.

If libcap is available, use it to drop privileges in pt_chown before
starting the work to change the permissions and ownership of the
slave device.
